The same coast that makes Antalya ideal in January makes it hard work in July. Pre-season usually falls in the hottest weeks of the year, and two sessions a day in coastal heat tire a squad before the real work begins. That is why we suggest cooler regions for summer camps. Official averages show the difference clearly.
July in numbers
These are long-term July averages from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, rounded to one decimal place.
| City | Average daily high | Average temperature |
|---|---|---|
| Antalya | 34.2°C | 28.6°C |
| Istanbul | 29.7°C | 24.7°C |
| Bolu | 27.5°C | 19.9°C |
| Erzurum | 26.6°C | 19.2°C |
| Rize | 26.0°C | 22.9°C |
The gap between Antalya and the inland cities is seven to eight degrees at the daily high, and more in the evening. The figures come from the Meteorological Service's city pages for Antalya, Bolu, Erzurum and Rize.
Istanbul
The easiest to reach, with two international airports and direct flights from most of Europe and the Gulf. It is warmer than the inland options, but still well below the coast, and the city's many clubs make friendlies easier to arrange. Traffic is the main constraint, so the hotel and pitch should be close together.
Bolu
Between Istanbul and Ankara, surrounded by forest and mountains. Summer evenings are cool, with an average July temperature around 20°C. Teams usually fly into Istanbul and continue by coach, so allow for the transfer on arrival day.
Erzurum
A high plateau city in the east of Türkiye, at around 1,900 metres. Days are warm and nights are clearly cooler, which makes sleep easier after hard training days. Some coaches value the altitude for conditioning, while others prefer a gentler first week while players adapt. Talk this through with your medical staff before choosing.
Rize
On the Black Sea coast, green and mild, with the lowest average July high in the table. The trade-off is rain. Rize averages about 151 mm of rain and around 14 rainy days in July, so an indoor option for training is essential.
Choosing between them
For most clubs the choice comes down to three questions: how far the squad is willing to travel from the airport, how important friendlies against local clubs are, and whether the medical staff want altitude. We put the options side by side with flight times and pitch distances in the quote.
